Many years ago, I began taking yoga classes I learned about alignment. The classes were aimed at becoming aware of our physical posture. The poses were teaching ourselves how to move our bodies and shift our posture so that there was a natural flow, connection and energy moving from the crown of our heads all the way to the earth and back.
I had amazing teachers that would come around and adjust me in my pose to help me do it correctly. Many of those times, the correction felt awkward. My body wasn’t used to the alignment, and it took months of practice and direction until I started feeling the difference myself and was able to do it naturally.
Similarly, my work as an intuitive life coach revolves around supporting others to discover inner alignment. Inner alignment is when what we feel, what we say and what we do are in integrity. We experience peace often and follow our intuition easily.
Living in Alignment
Like yoga, it comes from awareness. We have to notice what our bodies, mind and soul are telling us. We have to be willing to be honest with ourselves and sit with whatever is present. The inner alignment comes from noticing what’s out of place, but rather then simply adjusting our bodies as in yoga, we have to unpack misconceptions and feel uncomfortable emotions.
Essentially, you are shining a light on yourself and noticing what feels out of place so that you can reconnect with what does feel right.
When you give yourself the space and attention you begin to notice there is a lot happening under the surface. There are difficult emotions, ideas, opinions, judgments and fears that require changes in order to heal.
Inner alignment is unique to each person and will look differently for each person. We cannot look at how someone else is living and copy it, we need to discover it ourselves.
The adjustments come from connecting with your soul and letting it guide you.
The whispers are small and simple. When we follow their call, they lead us towards finding our own truth.
Inner alignment can look like setting boundaries, speaking your truth, giving yourself permission, communicating needs clearly, choosing a hobby that you love, spending time alone or with different people, feeling comfortable in your own skin, liking your life or putting yourself first.
A life in alignment is a life of freedom and peace because you know yourself, trust yourself and love yourself unconditionally. You are no longer “trying” to fit in, “trying” to satisfy others, “trying” to find your purpose, or comparing yourself to others– you are living your own truth.
3 Meaningful Ways to Live Your Life in Alignment with Your Soul’s Path
What do you value? What do you despise? What makes you feel alive? What hurts you? What are you curious about?
Make a clear list and begin to follow through on what is true for you and slowly remove all the actions that are not true.
Are you compassionate towards yourself? Do you listen when your body says it’s tired? Do honor your needs above others? Do you beat yourself up for failing to live a certain way?
Self-love is a requirement for a happy life, and it will change your life if you begin to practice it. How would you treat a friend or care for a child? Do the work to treat yourself with the same compassion.
Where do you place your trust? Do you look for safety outside yourself? Do you want love and confirmation from others?
Affirm that happiness is an inside job and therefore comes from within your own heart and soul. It cannot be given to you from an outside source.
Once you begin to know yourself and love yourself, you will be able to trust your soul’s calling and follow its path to alignment. I hope this supports you on your journey inwards and remember whatever you seek is within you!
