We’ve all heard people say that you should love your body as it is one place you’ll always live in, right? But how does one go about it?
A few weeks ago, I realized that I wasn’t connected to my body. I was aware of my body in that I knew it was there. In fact, I was challenging it by exercising and moving it more than ever before, but I wasn’t present in my body. I spent so much time in meditation and presence that I didn’t even realize that I was avoiding my body’s messages. I was avoiding being human.
Most of us spend more time and energy in our minds than in our bodies. We have grown accustomed to listening to thoughts, ideas and rationalizing the so-called right way of being. All of that takes place in our head. In fact, aside from using our bodies to get around and feeding it when its hungry, we tend to only pay attention to it when we get injured.
Love Your Body
You, like me may see yourself as “a spiritual being having a human experience”. Due to your unique gifts and life experience, you may feel more powerful and limitless without the boundary of the body. This happens for many reasons. Often times trauma leads us to disassociate from the body. However, the body is the key to unlocking your life experience and healing from pain. The only way out is through.
You need to love your body once again, honor and reconnect with it.
Without the body, we wouldn’t be able to experience life. The body is our container and requires special care and attention. It is constantly speaking to us and guiding us, but we need to slow down to listen to it. We need to honor what it is asking for. Whether it be sleep, food, stress relief, movement, laughter, or love. If we don’t acknowledge this part of ourselves, we cannot be present or happy.
Here are 5 ways in which you too can love your body once again and truly reconnect with it.
5 Beautiful Ways to Truly Love Your Body and Reconnect with It
We are usually running so fast to get things done. We have a lot on our shoulders. It takes practice to slow down and listen. Take time to notice the feelings, sensations, and messages that arise from the wisdom of the body.
Our bodies weren’t meant to be sitting all day long. They need movement, this helps us process our emotions and calm our nervous system, not to mention relieve stress. Ask your body what movement it wants? It may be different than what your mind wants.
Try playing with power posing (this is using our physiology to shift our state). If you are desiring confidence, pose in a position that makes you feel like a winner. If you are craving love and connection, sway your hips and hug yourself in gentle dance.
Acknowledge the constant work and protection your body offers you. Thank it for protecting you and keeping you safe. Communicate to your body that you appreciate all the work it does. Be willing to have a healthy and honest relationship with it in the same way you would with a partner or friend.
Where does your body fall into your day to day schedule? What if you began a process of connecting daily? This could be something as quick as one minute. Breathing, grounding, loving and respecting your body will lead you to feel more connected to yourself, more stable and more capable of conquering life’s challenges.
When you love your body and shine a light on it and how beautiful and powerful it is, you reconnect with yourself. You receive the wisdom of the body and can make authentic choices that feel right for you.
The body is here to support us and protect us in this life experience. It is the bridge of heaven and earth. Learn to love your body.
Let’s listen and love it together.
