If You Don't Like Your Job, Change It

“If you love your work it will be easy for you to do, if not, it will only be a burden.” Shaykh Nazim Adil Al-Haqqani

What do you do when you don’t enjoy the work you are doing, you don’t like your job, and you don’t like your coworkers? I was asked this question recently and I know there are many people out there dealing with this and I thought it will be wise to write a post and share it with you all.

Well, I don’t think it’s that much to be said here, because you see, I always advise people to look for what they are good at and to always work with their passions, their unique gifts, and talents, and I will never encourage anyone to keep on doing something that they don’t like, something that drains their energies, something that they don’t believe in, something that has no meaning to them.

If you don’t like what you do, change it, and if you are too scared, because you don’t know what is it that you like, you don’t know where would you like to work, what would you like to do, then maybe you should change your attitude towards it, because you see, there is nothing more that can be done. I find it quite dangerous, because when you keep on doing something that is not meaningful to you, when you keep on working on a job you hate with colleagues that irritate you, when you travel on a path that it’s not yours for too long, you will feel lost, because that is exactly what happened to you, you got lost.

When trying to go from A to B, and you realize that you are going in a wrong direction, what do you do? You change directions, right? Because if you will keep on traveling down that road, you will get even farther away from the destination, the place you want to get to.

I know it can be scary, but if you want things to change, if you want to wake up every morning feeling excited, knowing that you will be going to work, and this work that you are now doing has to mean to you, then that is exactly what you need to be doing, change directions.

And if  you are too afraid to step into unknown, to let go of the familiar, another thing you can do, and should do, is to decide that is time to change your attitude toward life, toward the people you are interacting with on a regular basis and towards the work you are doing, towards yourself, because you see, the only want hurting here is you.  It’s like my mentor Wayne Dyer said it:

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Wayne Dyer

It’ s that simple.

So go ahead and take action; go ahead and change your attitude towards life; go ahead and allow yourself to be free of all that negativity and toxicity that you are pouring into your system. Decide that is time for you to change, decide that it’s time for you to be happy, and

“If it falls on your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, like Shakespeare wrote poetry, like Beethoven composed music; sweep streets so well that all the host of Heaven and Earth will have to pause and say,”Here lived a great sweeper, who swept his job well” Martin Luther King, Jr.
