When you do your grocery shopping, how often do you read the labels? How often do you look at the ingredients used to make the food you will feed yourself and your whole family with? Do you even know what goes into the food you are buying?

The supermarket traps we fall into
Now let me tell you a story of my own.
A few months ago, I went to the supermarket to do my grocery shopping. And while looking for peeled tomatoes, I realized I had many options: organic and non organic; more expensive and less expensive.
Call me naive, but in the past I would always go for the more expensive and organic products. I had this misconception: if it’s expensive and organic, it has to be good, it has to be the best!
Well, we live and we learn.
With time I learned a few things about how the food industry works and how a lot of times these labels are only meant to deceive and make you pay more money. And now I read the ingredients.
Well, to my surprise, the organic peeled tomatoes had a bunch of extra ingredients than the regular type, including sugar. While that simple and humble can of peeled tomatoes had the tomatoes, tomato juice, citric acid and salt.
What? So how was that organic?
