10 Steps to Create and Live Your Life on Purpose

“If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.” ~T Alan Armstrong

Many of us struggle with the concern that how we are doing our lives is a bit out of sync with living our life’s purpose, or I called it back in 1990, our “soul purpose.

Having explored the question of how to create and live your purpose for over 20 years, by teaching numerous workshops and coaching many individuals, especially mid-lifers wanting a career change, I decided to identify the ten steps to living aligned with one’s authenticity, calling, and putting into action every day one’s Purpose.

1. Awareness.

Become aware that “what is” is not an authentic expression of your true, powerful, and creative self; and beginning to acknowledge the difference between living mindfully in the present moment, or constantly projecting personal desires toward a future state that never actually becomes real.

2. Commitment.

Become determined and committed to working through this conditioned path ─ “captured” by unconscious impulses ─ and discovering what it takes to overcome reactivity, live intentionally, and express your true self.

3. Seek guidance.

Seek guidance in finding a new direction, and gaining support for learning what it is you must do to move into authenticity. (One of my teachers suggests an ideal way to begin this process is to sit on your cushion, in quiet meditation, and listen to the story you are telling yourself; and recognize that the story and thought behind it is not real, but just passing thoughts, and like all unconscious thought arising to capture your attention, takes you out of living in the present moment– the only real opportunity we have to live life.)

4. Clarity.

Research and gain clarity about your personal self~ your values, strengths, passions, and qualities of goodness,  and aligning those qualities into and claiming your Soul Purpose~ that to which you are called to be and express in life, along with the intention of serving the greater good and needs of humanity.

5.  Service.

Come to the awareness that acting in service to others from an inner knowing and expression of your purpose is the highest form of life fulfillment.

6. Sacred Stillness.

Enter into the Sacred Stillness in order to gain daily insights, strength, and understanding of your basic goodness through meditation and attunement to Source Power, Wisdom, and Love.

7. Plan to go forward.

Commit to your new path of living your purpose in the present moment by making your new intentions known to a partner-coach, and developing a plan to go forward.

8. Insights and inspiration.

Take action based on insights and inspired ideas, while staying mindful of limiting beliefs and stories you tell yourself that arise from your conditioned past; and working with your coach to take back authority over your thoughts and feelings, and create new thinking that supports your highest intentions.

9. Expand your personal power.

Expand your power to be the greatness of who you are through risk-taking, action, and making a difference~ and growing yourself and your earth expression with an attitude of joy, forgiveness, and non-judgment.

10. Thankfulness.

Feel and give thanks for being alive and experiencing all of life, breath, and the energy of basic goodness expressing through you.

“We pray for the big things and forget to give thanks for the ordinary, small (and yet really not small) gifts.” ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
