6 Ways to Heal Your Dysfunctional Relationship with Food

“Your dysfunctional relationship with food is a reflection of the dysfunctional relationship you have with your own Self, your Life, and your World.” ~ Luminita D. Saviuc

Dysfunctional Relationship with Food

So many people throw food in their mouths like it’s nothing.

But food is not, nothing. Food is everything.

Food is Life.

Food is Love.

Food is Health.

Food is Healing.

And if we want to experience the incredible gifts and power food has to offer us, we first have to learn to heal our dysfunctional relationship with food. And in doing so, we will eventually discover that by honoring, loving, and respecting the food we put in our bodies, we are in fact honoring, loving, and respecting our own selves.

6 Ways to Heal Your Dysfunctional Relationship with Food

1. How you treat your body is how you treat yourself

The more love and respect you have for yourself, the more thought you will put into everything you do – including the food you eat.

If you have little or no love for your own person, and if there are parts of you that are in desperate need of love, healing, and affection, your food choices will reflect that. Your dysfunctional relationship with food is a reflection of the dysfunctional relationship you have with your own Self, your Life, and your World.

2. Your body is Your Temple

Your body is a Sacred Temple. And the food you eat is the offering you bring to the Temple.

If you treat your Temple with lack of respect and dignity by throwing food in your mouth like it’s nothing, your body will treat you like you are nothing. And that’s when all kind of imbalances will start to take place.

3. How you eat matters

6 Ways to Heal Your Dysfunctional Relationship with Food

How you treat the food you eat will determine how the food you eat will treat your body. If there is no Life, no Love, no Health, and no Presence in your interaction with food, there will be no Life, no Love, no Health, and no Presence in your body.

How you eat matters! So, why would you want a dysfunctional relationship with food?

4. Mindful eating equals conscious living

Offer yourself fully to the food you eat – acknowledging, blessing, and giving thanks to it, and in time you will begin to realize that with your thoughts, moods, love, and intentions, you can affect the quality of the food you eat.

“Edgar Cayce stated that even the most nutritious foods can turn to poison in the system if eaten while a person is in a negative frame of mind. Never eat when angry, worried or extremely tired.”

5. Your body speaks

Don’t force your body to eat when it’s not hungry, what it does not need, and when it does not need it!

Your body speaks.

Listen!

Listen to the wisdom of your body – listen to what your body needs, why it needs it, and when it needs it – and be wise enough to honor these needs.

6. Heal the wounds

If food harmed you in the past, it’s time to heal that wound; it’s time for you to free your heart of all that anger, pain, bitterness, and resentment, and make room for healing to take place.

Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and when you’re ready, imagine sitting in front of a table filled with foods that caused you pain, and suffering in the past.

6 Ways to Heal Your Dysfunctional Relationship with Food

See them all laying there on the table. And do your best not to judge them.

Observe your feelings

Acknowledge their presence.

Welcome them.

But don’t judge them.

Stay in that space for a little longer by bringing your attention to your breath once more.

Breathe deeply and mindfully. And feel how your deep breaths are clearing the energy in your body, making room for healing to take place,

Feel that clearing taking place.

And when you feel ready, I want you to place your both hands over your heart and with a soft and gentle voice, I want you to tell yourself:

I deserve to be happy.

I deserve to be healthy.

I deserve to let go.

I deserve to be free.

I deserve to forgive.

And in your mind’s eye, see how it would be like to free yourself of all the pain food has caused you. Feel how it would be like to be free from all the resistance, anger, bitterness, and resentment. And let these feelings inundate your heart with love and hope.

And as your heart gets filled with love, and all your wounds are healed by love, I want you to imagine your body is infused with a liquid golden light that fills every cell of your body and every area of your life with love, with thankfulness, with healing, and with grace.

Take it all in. Drink it all.

And when you’re ready, open your eyes and give yourself a big fat hug.

You did a great job.

You are now healed…
