There a million things that we cannot control in our lives.
I don’t write this with ease – in fact, it has been a recurring lesson and theme in my life. One that used to take me down a dark path. Like many people, I always wanted to fix, organize and plan my life so that it might be perfect.
My own definition of perfect included whatever was “the least amount of pain, drama, and suffering.” I was careful of everything so that I could avoid those uncomfortable feelings and scary possibilities.
As a new mother, I have learned and finally embraced (it comes with the territory) the FACT that no matter how hard I try and how much I work, I cannot control what happens in my life and in the life of my loved ones. Life is filled with surprises and cannot follow an agenda.
Learning to accept that certain things are out of your hands is a blessing. Imagine finally cutting the cords of those heavyweights.
It also goes hand in hand with the realization that though you can’t plan it all out perfectly, you do have a lot of power in other areas. Namely, your mindset, attitude and overall happiness.
Yes, you are in control of your own happiness!
It often doesn’t feel this way and we get lost in what happiness means and how we can achieve it. We search outside for it. We see if that person, job, body, the lover has it for us. As if it is a present that we will physically get, unwrap and open.
The good news is that you do have this amazing gift waiting for you but you can only see it once you make the internal shifts to your mindset. By broadening your mind to see things in a new light, you can create the happiness you seek.
Like anything new in your life, you make the choice of welcoming it in and giving it a chance. Embracing new mindsets is like planting seeds and hoping a flower pops out the next day. In all honesty, it takes some TLC to see the results. For me, the consistent reminders of some of these are what supported me. Each day I take a few seconds to remember.
