Live In The Present, Let Go Of The Past, Don't Worry About The Future

Living in the present moment can be challenging for many of us and the interesting thing is that not too many people understand that:

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. ~Buddha

Live In The Present, Let Go Of The Past, Don’t Worry About The Future

Today I want to share with you a beautiful story about the power of the present moment and why is it so important to train our minds to stay focused on TODAY, on the NOW.

YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW

“There are two days in every week about which we should not worry.

Two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is YESTERDAY with its mistakes and cares,

Its faults and blunders, Its aches and pains.

YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back YESTERDAY.

We cannot undo a single act we performed.

We cannot erase a single word we said. YESTERDAY is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW.

With its possible adversities, Its burdens,

Its large promise and poor performance.

TOMORROW is also beyond our immediate control.

TOMORROW‘s Sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds,

but it will rise.

Until it does, we have no stake in TOMORROW, for it is yet unborn.

This just leaves only one day . . . TODAY.

Any person can fight the battles of just one day.

It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities –

YESTERDAY and TOMORROW that we break down.

It is not the experience of  TODAY that drives people mad.

It is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY.

and the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.

Let us therefore LIVE BUT ONE DAY AT A TIME.” ~ Author Unknown

Marmie…so beautifully said…I think we would all agree that what you just said is a pay off of learning how to use our thoughts in a productive vs destructive way. If you find yourself in the present moment struggling….what a beautiful thought to have the ability to feed off a beautiful memory or the passion of what is to come. Love how you put it.

I believe I understand the context of this idea. There have been times, however that I survived difficulty by holding on to the hopes of tomorrow or being thankful for the warm memories of yesterday. There are times when only being in the moment was unbearable. I had to get through those times and have the presence of mind and spirit to do so, but it was partly possible because I knew it was temporary. (Or had faith it was at least , and it did become so) I do agree that it is not good to wallow in regret nor to worry ourselves over things that might happen, but have not.
