“Take your life in your own hands, and what happens? A terrible thing: you have no one to blame.”  ~ Erica Jong

We spend so much time blaming our parents, our teachers, our family, the society we live in, our environment, our genes, our government and the many people around us for the many things we think are wrong with ourselves and our lives. And because we are so busy pointing the finger, playing the victim and acting as if it’s Us against Them, we fail to realize that we are powerful beyond measure and that the future of our lives is in Our hands, not in other people’s hands.

In this short yet powerful video, Stallone makes a very deep and profound statement:

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that! ”

There is no peace in pointing the finger and making others responsible for how you feel and for what your life looks like. There is no peace in giving your power away to forces outside of yourself and making them responsible for the quality of your life. There is no peace in putting your life in other people’s hands and expecting them to live it for you. Your life is yours to live. Your path is yours to walk on. And by having the courage to take life into your own hands – assuming responsibility for who you are and for how your life looks – you free yourself from this “poor me” mentality and you start living!
