Do you ever stop and ask yourself why do you do what you do? Why do you believe what you believe, why do you work where you work, why do you live the way you do, etc. ?
We are so accustomed to just doing whatever everyone else is doing, going with the current, going and going without taking the time to rest; without taking the time to question our life, our behavior; without taking the time to ask all kind of questions, to ourselves and to those around us; without questioning our beliefs, not realizing that most of these beliefs were handed down to us by our families, friends, teachers, you name it, and they are not our beliefs, but theirs; without questioning our limitations, and just blending in.
What if you stopped everything you are doing and asked yourself these questions? What if you start asking yourself these questions right now, in this very moment: Why do I do the things I do? Why am I living the way I am living? Why am I living a life that my parents/ friends/ spouse etc. want for me, and not the life that I want for myself? What do I do what you do?
Once you do this, believe me, you will be so surprised by the answers you get, and chances are that, the answers you will get will not be too pleasant either, because you will realize that you were living your life on auto pilot, and that you had no control over your own life, until now.
When we were young, when we were little children, we used to ask all kind of questions, to ourselves and to all the people around us, but as we grew older and older, because we didn’t wanted to keep on “disturbing” everybody with our silly questions, because that’s what we’ve been told, that they are silly questions, we forgot how to do so.
A lot of us are are living their lives on auto pilot and the things that we do, we just do them because that’s what we were told that needs to be done, we just do them because that’s what we were told people our age should do, a different age, a different behavior, and we engage on that, we do everything because we don’t want to misbehave. We want to blend in, we want to be liked, and we want to be accepted and loved by those around us, and in our minds, the best way to do so, is to live the way “they” want us to live, even if this means to let go of who we really are, to forget about ourselves.
Try to forget all that, for a few moments if you can’t do it longer, and take the time to really go deep into these questions, because, if you allow them, they will help you realize that maybe you are not going in the direction you want for yourself, and chances are that you will wake up, chances are that you will start creating a life of your own, not based on other people’s beliefs, limitations and opinions. Chances are that you will start living your own life, and not the life of other people.
