Declutter Your Life: 8 Ways to Simplify Your Life

Once you make a decision to declutter your life, things will start to fall into place, and where there was once chaos and discord you will soon find simplicity, balance, and harmony.

Henry David Thoreau wasn’t kidding when he affirmed that, ‘As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness, weakness.’

Declutter Your Life

As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness, weakness. And as you begin to declutter your own life, you too will discover this to be true.

How to Declutter Your Life: 8 Ways to Simplify Your Life

1. Declutter your mind

If you want to simplify your life, you must definitely start by decluttering your mind.

How do you do this?

By going through the database of your mind and by clearing all the dusty, fearful, unhealthy, and toxic beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and expectations you have stored in there over the years.

Here are some tools that can help you speed up the decluttering process:

2. Declutter your energy field

Clutter is stuck energy. The word “clutter” derives from the Middle English word “clotter,” which means to coagulate – and that’s about as stuck as you can get. ~ Karen Kingst

The clutter present in your physical world is nothing but a manifestation of the clutter present in your energy field. Once you start clearing the clutter in your energy field, the clutter present in your life will be cleared as well.

So how do you do this?

By getting a piece of paper and by writing down the names of all the people by whom we have been hurt in the past, and all the painful memories that have been stored in your energy field throughout the years.

Take your time. Write it all down. Bring it all out of your energy field and onto this physical piece of paper. It might feel uncomfortable and you might encounter a lot of resistance in the process, but that’s just heavy energy that needs to be released. You have nothing to fear or worry about.

Once you’re done, take a few deep cleansing breaths and ask yourself?

Am I willing to let these memories go?

Am I willing to free myself from the heavy chains of the past?

(You now have a choice – to either let go of all that stuck energy and painful memories or to continue to carry them with you wherever you go. And your intention to let it all go will clear your energy field and will free you from all that energy clutter.)

Once you feel ready, burn that piece of paper, and along with it, the painful memories of your past that have been hunting you for all this time. See it all being burned away by the fire. And set an intention to let it all go – to put the past behind you and to wash yourself of all that pain, darkness, sadness, toxicity, and negativity. Then go take a shower and squeeze a lemon on your body – imagine the lemon juice to be this healing Liquid Gold Light that’s cleansing you and washing away any remainings of the past. (I have learned this from my coach. Thank you, Ryan :))

3. Declutter your Self-worth

Your self-worth needs to be cleared of clutter. And you know why? Because you have been telling yourself too many stories about how small, unworthy, and insignificant you are. And you have been mistaking these stories for who you are.

  • You are not small – Clear that belief.
  • You are not insignificant – Let go of that thought.
  • You are not unworthy – Eliminate this toxic belief.
  • You are not a, nobody –  Drop that idea.
  • You are not invisible – Get rid of that thought.

Cleanse. Rinse. Declutter. Let it all go.

Get rid of all thoughts, ideas, and unhealthy beliefs about you not being worthy and enough and See yourself as you truly are:

  • Worthy,
  • Valuable,
  • Deeply loved,
  • Deeply appreciated.
  • Beautiful,
  • Strong,
  • Powerful,
  • And Enough.

4. Declutter your relationships

What does it mean to declutter your relationship?

It means to get clear on what works in your relationships and what doesn’t. To gain clarity on what is useful and what is not. And then to take the necessary steps to clear and cleanse all those things that are damaging, not just you, but the people you are in a relationship with as well.

So ask yourself hard questions:

Does this relationship add any value to my life?

Am I better when I am with this person?

Do I add any value to these people’s lives?

Does my energy expands or contracts when I’m around this person?

Am I comfortable with being myself in their presence?

Do they support my dreams?

Are the people I surround myself with a good influence?

Am I a good influence?

Do these people inspire me to be better?

Do I inspire them to be better?

Here are some other ways in which you can declutter your relationships:

  • Set healthy boundaries
  • Get clear on your core values in relationships
  • Communicate these values to those you are in a relationship with – friends, family, partner, co-workers, etc.
  • Learn to say ‘no’ to others so that you can say ‘yes’ to yourself
  • Talk about the things that are hard to talk about

If you surround yourself with people who constantly want something from you – without giving you anything in return, chances are that you will feel exhausted, depleted of vital life force energy, confused, sick, angry, and unhappy. (This happens when there is an unhealthy exchange of energy – you give your all and they take it all without giving anything in return.) And we want to avoid that.

Always remember that the people you surround yourself with play an important role in the quality of your life and your mental state. Choose wisely.

5. Declutter your home

One of the many ways in which you can simplify your life is by clearing the clutter in your home. This includes the whole house, from the bedroom, to the lounge, kitchen and even the bathroom.

How do you do this? By taking one step at a time, and by clearing one room at a time.

There’s no need to get overwhelmed. No need to panic. Just pick a room and start there.

Go through the many things you have gathered over the years and ask yourself:

Do I really need to keep this?

Do I love it?

Does it add any value to my life?

Do I keep this thing in hope that I might use it one day?

If I keep this, will it simplify my life, or will it complicate it?

Will this thing make my life better? Will it make me better?

Can this thing take care of Me, or do I have to take care if It?

Does this item clutter my home?

Can I let it go?

You want to surround yourself with things that will enhance your happiness, health, and well-being, not with things that will take the life out of your life by demanding your constant focus, care, and attention.

Eliminate what needs to be eliminated and keep only what’s truly useful.

And always remember: You are the owner of your things and not the other way around.

6. Declutter your schedule

I know you are busy. But what are you really busy with?

Go through your busy schedule and the many things you do each day, and ask yourself:

Why am I really doing this?

Do I keep myself busy to feel important?

What are the things that distract me from what is truly important?

What are the activities that keep me from spending time with the people that I love the most?

What are the things that are important to me?

What are the activities that take away my energy?

What things can I discard from my busy schedule to focus on what truly matters to me?

Don’t burden yourself with dull, and meaningless activity.

Life is too short for that.

Get rid of all those activities that are nothing but a waste of your time and energy and choose to free your time for those things, people, and activities that bring joy, laughter, meaning and fulfillment to your life.

7. Declutter your Life Vision

The dreams you had 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 or even 70 years ago might not be the same dreams you now have. And that is why is so important to declutter so that you can get to the essence of things.

What is truly important to you now?

What brings you tremendous peace and joy?

What keeps you excited?

What do you love most than anything in the world?

What are your core values?

Who do you want to be?

What do you want to become?

What do you want to be remembered for?

Answer these questions with honesty and whatever no longer fits into your new Life Vision, discard it.

Don’t let the Old You dictate how the Present You should live. Decide for yourself!
