The Beauty of Getting Lost and Being Found

I feel like I haven’t been writing that much lately and it makes me a bit sad because this is one of the things I love so much. When I write, I go to this blissful place where I am no longer thinking in terms of “me”  and what can I get, but rather in terms of “us, we, you, them” and what and how can I give.

It is no longer about me, it’s about YOU, the people reading this blog and the positive effect some of my post might have on your life.

I am working on becoming my own BEST SELF once again because I do feel I got a bit distracted with other things and I forgot what’s really important for me. I forgot what brings purpose and meaning into my life and into my world, and that is my love for writing, my love for creative expression in all kind of ways and my love for people.

If I were to give one single advice to anyone, I would just tell them to listen to their inner voice, to listen to their heart and intuition, to listen to themselves and never doubt that inner voice because that voice knows what best for them.

“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.” ~Benjamin Spock

Trust yourself because all the answers you need are already inside you. When you do that, when you trust yourself, your inner voice, your intuition, you feel at peace, with yourself and the world around you and you know exactly what to do and where to go. You allow clarity to come back into your life and miracles start to happen.

“The greatest explorer on this earth never takes voyages as long as those of the man who descends to the depth of his heart.” ~Julien Green

The exact same advice I gave to myself a few days ago because I got a bit lost. There are times when I forget to listen to my own SELF and not to doubt it, and when that happens, I get of balance and anxiety sneaks in. The good news is that I always get back to being me, I always get back to honouring my true self, I always get back to serenity 🙂

I actually love this quote from Erika Harris because I feel like it talks to be – “It is good to feel lost… because it proves you have a navigational sense of where “Home” is. You know that a place that feels like being found exists. And maybe your current location isn’t that place but, Hallelujah, that unsettled, uneasy feeling of lost-ness just brought you closer to it.”

I do get lost from time to time but I always return “Home” and not empty handed, but with plenty of valuable lessons I have learned along the way. How about you? Do you ever get lost? And when that happens, do you get scared, or excited? You can share your insights by joining the conversation in the comment section below 🙂

gabriel, i guess theres also a third way, but it could also be one that is related to your first one.
losing one’s personality in order to please others. “liking” or approving things because someone else influences you to do so. it often happened to me, often because i fell in love with people who did not do me any good. today, being aware of all this, im trying to monitor me better, to se whether i lose track again…

With a family member haranguing me to follow her religious and spiritual path instead of mine , because hers is so right and mine is so wrong…*sigh*. this sure helped..

Your right, be me. I love home.

    Love reading this article…

We all get lost sometimes, the key is not to get so lost to the point where we cant find ourselves. Life is a journey, and on its path we are constantly growing and finding out new things about ourselves.

As for me, i try to stick to my core values in anything I do, so that when i do get sidetracked on things that are not important, I got always go to my set of values to get me back on track.

The main thing is to know yourself…Or as I tell my readers, WAKE UP TO YOUR TRUE IDENTITY!

    Great post!

I love both the article and this response. I also love that we are open enough sense we have moved away from “home,” from the place where we are honoring our authentic self and using the gifts we were given when we do so. For me, returning to self care like meditation, allowing myself to rest & relax so I can renergize allows me to go back to being mindful of my thoughts, which often become negative and make me anxious, and cause me to lose my way a little more. When I return to being mindful, to thinking positive, to bring positive energy back into my life and focusing on my goals and what I am here to accomplish I am home. I think we all lose our way sometimes but I am so thankful for the navigator inside me that says, “Wait! Where are you going?” Thank you both for sharing!

It feels like you wrote this directly from my mind! Doesn’t it feel good when you put something like this into the universe? Many thanks for putting into words what was in my heart.

Hi Dana, thank you for sharing this post. Call it a coincidence or what, but when I read the first few paragraphs, it just seemed so magical that it was exactly how I was feeling at that moment. It never felt better to sense empathy through your words. Likewise, I just suddenly lost sight of what is important in my life and what I am worthy of. The challenge is not to allow everyday’s hustle and bustle and interactions we have with people and things to cause us to lose our way. I felt so relieved to learnt Erika Harris’s quote – “It is good to feel lost… because it proves you have a navigational sense of where “Home” is. ”

Please keep writing, because I would certainly keep reading 🙂

This has been my most recent journey: getting back to myself and loving myself. I LOVE the Erika Harris quote; it gives me a sense of hope that my journey is not in vain. It has felt very lonely and scary but I have been actively seeking out help so I remind myself I’m not alone. And as much as I may want to take control, I wake up each day doing my very best to hand it over to God. It’s not easy.

I also got lost, forgot my purpose in life, but by prayers, I was found again. my inner voice tells me to get away from it all at that moment but after weeks of prayer, I was able to accept things and moved on.

I loved reading this post and appreciate the Emily Harris quote. When I feel lost, which I experience as anxious or overwhelmed, and if not dealt with I shut down, I start with getting back to the big three basics: 1. Eating healthy 2. Exercise/Activity 2. Maintaining a sleep schedule. The combination of the three clears the path toward clarity and serenity and it does so in a matter of days. From there, I am in a place to tend to my need for creativity, productivity, patience and gratitude. I have found that consciously practicing gratitude and stating my intentions clearly in my head/to the universe is the second big step to finding my way home. Last, I work toward simplifying my life on a daily basis. I found that keeping things simple is in fact work and requires my checking in with myself at the end of the day to review what I have done to simplify or complicate my life that day, then determining what I need to do the next day to stay on that path. It sounds simple, some of it so simple I forget how necessary it is but when I follow these steps the miracles happen and I experience that sense of calmness and joy in all aspects of my life. When I don’t, I end up a pile if nerves and negativity. Self-respect, appreciation for the self and others and sticking to the basics have changed my life after years of looking for the easy short cut or expecting others to get me to a place of bliss. I hope this speaks to someone out there. Most of all, trust the universe, which is you. As you said, you somehow already have all the answers. The trick is to be in a place where you can hear them… and of course, you must act on what you hear your inner voice tell you. Thank you for reminding me what is important and necessary for my total sense of wellness.

so, there are 2 ways to get lost. the wrong one – you get absorbed by worries of the world, money, fighting with others, you forget your intuition and lose your inner peace.
The good one: be lost in what you love – when you dream, write, read, connect with nature, God, friends. You simply forget about yourself. But you ARE yourself in that moment. LOST AND FOUND in the same time!
