3-Easy-Ways-to-Fake-It-til-You-Make-It-Without-Being-Deceitful

“You must be the person you have never had the courage to be. Gradually, you will discover that you are that person, but until you can see this clearly, you must pretend and invent.” ~ Paulo Coelho

Fake It ’til You Make It… What does this phrase really mean? You probably have heard this being tossed around a bit in the theatre industry, or in life in general but what does it really mean?

You may be thinking, is this one of those things that you do when you feel like you have absolutely no idea what you are doing in a new job or just a weird and overly cryptic fitness class? You feel like you should just ‘pretend’ until the pain and humiliation is over and then can go and find the nearest cave to climb into in shame.

You may also be thinking that Fakin it til you make it might be seen as lying to oneself or pretending to be someone you are not. However, I wanted to discuss how this is definitely not the case.

I believe it is a shift in perception. It is actively choosing to shift our energy one of negativity to one of love high vibration.

Our thoughts trigger emotions, which trigger physical action and can, therefore, shift situations, people and places around us. It takes no rocket scientist to understand that when thinking in a negative pattern, things and situations around us start to shift in a negative way.

We might be having a brilliant morning but it can take as little as 2 seconds for someone to say a comment to us that could trigger our ego (the little nasty voices inside our heads) to start spiraling out of control. Suddenly you are late for work, your bus doesn’t come on time, you give off negative energy to your work mates, you feel like nothing is going right, all because you had one comment or situation that begins this spiral.

3 Easy Ways to Fake It ’til You Make It Without Being Deceitful

So how do we use ‘Fake it ’til you make it’ to help solve these situations that occur so often in daily life?

1. Smile more.

This is an easy one but sometimes quite difficult when we really DON’T want to smile. Someone might have said something that is pushing our buttons and being completely negative and we are gritting our teeth. Try smiling for 1 minute. After 1 minute I guarantee your body energy will reciprocate and you will start to see the benefits of this small but simple act of kindness to yourself.

2. Jump up and down and go for an over the top gratitude run (as I like to call it).

This is one of my favorites and one I tell my coaching clients to try when they don’t want to be doing exercise. Mainly because you look like you are running to the soundtrack of ‘Jitterbug’, but TRUST me doing an over the top run where you actively smile and go through in your head what you are grateful for in each moment makes your run A LOT easier. It changes and shifts your energy in your body making you a lot more positive and happier about life in general as you are able to appreciate the moment and all the things you have right now.

3. Shout a positive affirmation to yourself in the mirror.

By having an amazing set of positive self-talk that you can not only say to yourself but energetically shout to yourself every morning can create such a rush of positive energy and great for your subconscious thoughts.

Faking it ’til you make it doesn’t have to have any negative connotations to it. It takes guts and discipline in the middle of a funky moment to actively choose these positive exercises however with practice and trust, your body will respond and you know in your heart that this benefits you enormously. It becomes easy, and the universe responds with love and abundance. So go out and fake it ’til you make until you don’t need to fake it anymore!
