How to Become a Better You

Your life will not get better if you don’t get better. The question is how to do just that. You can’t expect things to just happen without you moving a finger. If you want your life to get better, if you want to be happy, you have to work on yourself. You can’t expect the world to change, you can’t expect those around you to change, and you to remain exactly the same. The world will not change if you don’t change. I know I have said it before, but it is true. Once you decide to change, once you will make those changes, the whole world will change with you.

So what can be done in order for you to change your life, in order for you to be more pleasant person and at peace with yourself? First of all, you have to know what is it that you want from life. Where are you headed? Where do you want to go, what do you want to achieve? What are your goals, what are your dreams? What is your purpose in life? Have you find it yet? What do you love to do? What are you passionate about? What makes you really, really happy? After getting the answers to all these questions, you have to decide to take action. You can’t expect things to just happen. You have to make them happen, and you can do this by taking action. One small step at a time.

If you want your life to improve, you have to change you mental attitude. You have to decide to become a more positive person. To see the world from a different perspective, to be more optimistic, more optimistic about what the future will bring. By doing this you will take your attention from those things that aren’t working at the moment, from those situations that make you unhappy and focus on what you want for yourself and for those around you.

If you want your life to get better, you have to work on improving your relationships. You have to go out in the world and make new friends, meet new people, people that share the same ideas with you, same interests, people that can help you become the person you want to become. Stay away as much as possible from the naysayer. Keep them away from your life. Who are the people you admire? What are the places they hang out? If you want to be around them, if you want to win them as your friends, do what they do, go to the places they go, socialize, get interested in them and they might get interested in you.

Cultivate new and greater habits. We are really good at cultivating negative and destructive habits, those are really easy to form, but if you want to change your life for the better, if you want to grow, you have to decide on forming new and better habits. You can start with exercising daily, or at least three times a week. You can decide to wake up a little bit earlier. You can also try meditating. I know I heard Dr. Wayne Dyer once saying that he wakes up every morning around 3:00 am, no matter how late he goes to bed and before eating he meditates. He was saying that he takes his energy from meditating a half an hour in the morning and he feels way better that if he would have slept for 3 or 4 more hours. That is definitely something I want to try. You just have to be open to new ideas. Be open and your life will definitely change in a spectacular way. The are a lot of good habits that you can choose from and remember, the research have shown that if you do a thing for 21 days it will definitely become a habit in the end. 21 day is not that much right? I will do anything for 21 days if I know that it will improve my life later on. Give it a try. What is it that you will like to work on? What positive habit would you like to form and why? How would that help you?

Another thing you can do to improve the quality of your life is to accept the people, the situations and the environment you are in. Accept it and embrace it. Make the best of it. Know that if you can’t be happy where you are at the moment, if you can’t be happy in the environment you are right now, you will not be happy anywhere. I know it might sound strange but believe me it is true. It happen to me and too and I came to the conclusion that it’s not the situation, it’s not the people, the circumstances, the environment that makes you happy or unhappy, but the way you choose to react to everything that happens to you, with you and around you. It’s not where you are that makes you happy or unhappy but what you think about.

You will also have to work on improving your inner life. You have to discover yourself, who you really are. You have to learn how to listen to your inner voice, your intuition. Learn to be inspired. Discover who you are deep down in your heart. You might lose the friends you had by now, you might not want to be around them once you discover who you are, and what you want to do with your life. They might find you are acting in a strange way and they might notice that you are now changing in a way they can’t accept. They might choose to leave you behind. Don’t worry. It is better to be alone for a while, to be with yourself, to discover yourself than to be around people who might poison you, people who might hold you back, pull you down. If you listen to your heart, your intuition, if you decide to follow your dreams, in time you might find greater friends, people that will accept you for who you are, people who will love you and respect you, people who will help you rise higher than before. Remember, out of rejection comes direction. When one door closes another will open. There are no accidents in the Universe, there are no accidents in your life. Everything that happens to us, happens for a reason.

Whatever you do, whatever happens to you or around you, always remember to stay focused. Stay passionate about life. Don’t worry about what you don’t have. Your present condition does not matter. And remember not to talk about the things that are missing, don’t talk about what you don’t have. Don’t think about what you can’t do but focus your attention on what you want to achieve, on who you want to become. See yourself accomplishing your goals, see yourself fulfilling your destiny. Se yourself living your life on purpose. Do not allow yourself to get stuck, do not allow yourself to think negative thoughts about yourself and about the world we live in. All you need to do is be happy in the present moment, be happy in the now, while at the same time have a great vision of what the future will look like. Live your life the way it was intended for you. Choose to be happy. Listen to your heart and choose to only do that which you love, that which you are passionate about.

Know that if you will not allow yourself to be happy, if you won’t allow yourself to believe in who you are and what you are capable of, to live on purpose, you might come to the end of your journey and ask the same question as Ivan Ilyich in The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy: “What if my whole life has been wrong?” What a tragedy will that be.
