Thoughts Have Power - Choose the Good Ones!

“Everything you are against weakens you. Everything you are for empowers you.” ~ Wayne Dyer

One of the many lessons I have learned over the years is to let go of the need to always complain about the things I don’t like, the people that act in a way that I find unpleasant; to let go of the need to complain about past events and current situations.

I have learned that my mind can play tricks on me and that my mind can make me think thoughts that are negative and destructive, and I have learned not to believe everything I think.

I have learned to step away from the things that make me unhappy, from the things I don’t like, towards those things I do like. And by doing so, I started attracting a lot of good things, people and events into my life.

Just by learning to shift my attention from the negative, from what I don’t like and from what I do not want towards the positive, towards what I love and what I do want, I learned more about the key to happiness, and I have learned more about how to achieve happiness.

Thoughts have power, great power, creative power, and if you manage to train your mind to work for you and not against you, you will find happiness. I think it’s very important for us to understand that, just like the amazing James Allen said it: as you think, you travel, and as you love, you attract. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”

And as a final thought, I want to share with you this beautiful poem I found on the Internet as I am sure you will enjoy reading it as much as I did.

Thoughts Have Power – Choose the Good Ones

“Tell me your woes and I’ll tell you mine,

Be sure to make coffee, for this will take time,

I am here for you and you for me

When we are done, we are sure to be free.

Complain about all, your doubts, fears, and pain.

If need be, repeat your complaints again

I think when you’re done, and I begin mine,

You may realize that actually, you are quite fine.

Remember this, dear complainer, that I lent you an ear

When you return home, leave your complaints here.

Your family will appreciate, the time that I took

To write your complaints in a very big book.

Now next time you feel, the need to complain

Pick up that complaint book, and read it again.

I think when you’re done reading, my dear complainer

You may realize, complaining makes you sound insane.” ~ Anita Brown

I often say that our thoughts will become a self-fulfilling prophesy, so it’s best to think good ones!

    That’s for the great post.

    Nini,

I feel for you and your situation. I’ve learnt through my own experiences that sometimes what we initially regard as the worst possible situation, is actually the begining of a new and exciting journey. One door closes, and another opens…. Sometimes left to my our own choices we choose the same people, work enviornment, routine etc. day in and day out because it’s safe, even if we’re not happy or used or abused by others. Twenty years on you wake up full of regrets for the what you choose to continuly endure. Perhaps Nina a higher force has intervened for you, and has something else in store for you?

All the happiness we need is already within us and it’s up to us to tap into it 🙂 Love Wayne Dyer and love The Power of Intention!

This has happened to so many people. My husband who at 63 was laid off after 20 years service. He has found a job making so much less, we have sold our home, and we are in the process of moving and packing to a much smaller home. It is very sad to have to sell our furniture and other things to fit into a very small place.
I have been doing a lot of soul searching to come to a better place and not be so biter about all of this.

It is getting better, I am letting go of “things” We are moving on to a different life-style of course but one thing that we can not lose is ourselfs and our family! We are healthy and I believe this change has come to show us what really matters in the scheme of themes is our ability to move and hopefully become stronger!
Good luck to you and your family.

I have been working for and moving towards that inner piece, you know the place…it’s where we find our balance, for a very long time.
I read Wayne Dyer’s book The Power of Intention, a few years back. I loved the simplicity of it and I have been trying to achieve that since.
It’s easy on some days when the sun is out and all things seem right with the world. Where I struggle is on those days where life throws a curve ball. What I’ve learned along the way is that life is a gift and enjoying it to the fullest and being the best person I can be is the goal to work towards. I struggle on some days, when those self deprecating thoughts pop into my head or someone’s behaviour bothered me. When this happens I still see it as a success because I try and turn it around…I try and replace the negative thoughts with good ones. Everytime I do this I move forward in my thinking…I move towards happiness.

This information is very good!!! However some situations cannot be ignored. Example – after 29 yrs at age 52 I was laid off. The person who chose the people from my department had a personal dislike if me because of a past issue where he had been reprimanded for treating me badly. He never got over that. I believe I was let go because that person was eager not to look at me everyday. There are other employees still working there who have unethical behavior problems documented in their files. I have nothing negative in my files and received annual raises all of those years. My financial future is grim. I cannot find a job making the money I was making . I will have to sell my house. How can I stop feeling negative about
    This situation ? Help !

I have found myself in the same shoes for the past decade. Some things have changed but some fundamentals are dying to be amended and I have trouble identifying them. Reading your blog and the poem you shared with it has greatly helped me identify where I have been channeling all my energy. Turns out even the reserve is sent to the wrong side – complaining. I shall attempt a new method of living – channeling all energy toward the positive, to live the dream and to spend my reserve energy on foreseeing the next move. Thank you 🙂 xXx

Actually, you can’t always be satisfied with everything that comes your way or happens to you. I presume the article is encouraging us to live a happy life devoid of too many complaints. I for one, have learnt this a long time ago, thanks for this piece anyway.

Here’s what I work on…do not take whatever someone does personally. Pretty hard to do, but I try to follow this when someone either appeard rude, or brushes me off, or doesn’t seem as friendly as last time. It’s not about me – it’s about them. And whatever they think about me is none of my business. I have to enjoy my life because noone else will enjoy it for me.

I wish I could lose the fearful feeling I wake up with in my tummy every day. Almost in anticipation of the unknown.

This is so true, and I’ve learned it’s important to practice this even on the most micro-level. Like, i used to always feel obligated to finish books I started even if they brought me no joy, and same with so-so movies and tv shows. All the time you waste with people and activities you don’t like, even if the loss seems minor in isolation, they all add up.

This article and the poem is AMAZING! I am making a committment today to stop complaining. Always knew it was a negative mindset but sometimes you need to have things explained to you in such a way that it cuts through the defenses that your mind has created to protect your negative actions!
This is powerful and life changing. Thank you Anita Brown and thank you Wayne Dyer for this and the many lessons learned from you through out the years!
    Blessings
